The Dangers of Distracted Driving
The state of Maryland prohibits the use of handheld phones while driving, yet distracted driving is still a massive contributor to an average of 500 collisions [1] on our state’s roads and highways in 2015 alone.
Three general driving distractions, due to the use of a mobile device, include:
Visual – looking at something other than the road
Manual – any distraction that requires you to take your hands off the wheel
Cognitive – anything that takes your mind off driving tasks.
Specific examples of other distractive driving activities include:
- Texting or checking your email
- Eating or drinking
- Personal grooming
- Conversations with passengers
- Adjusting audio controls
- Reading
A distracted driver can cause serious harm including personal injury and property destruction. If a distracted driver has affected you, or a loved one, please contact Potter Burnett Law today for a free consultation.
